Sketchbook 797: Performance by Tino Sehgal at the Venice Biennale

This drawing is a response to the performance piece by Tino Sehgal at the Venice Biennale this summer.  Two performers sat and moved rhythmically on the ground to a slow beatbox tempo sang by one of them. The room was big with concrete floors and there were a few large, brushed metal sculptures on the edges, as well as primitive drawings posted on the walls.  The sound of the beatboxing, humming, echoed and filled the room; it mixed with sound of viewers chatting and discussing art.  The performers rotated out with different performers every 5-10 minutes, they sat on a bench at the edge of the room.  I watched for about 10 minutes and then I brought out my sketchbook and drew from multiple angles as it unfolded.
